Feb 16 - Planted 3/4" blocks:
- 12 broccoli - i need 8 to be planted out in about 4-6 weeks
- 8 stevia - i need 2 to eventually plant out. evidently these are hard to get to germinate
- 4 basil - i need 1 for my window sill :)
- 55 extra dwarf bok choy - i just want to see how these grow in 2" blocks, to see if they make the entire harvest right in the blocks

Feb 19 - First signs of life:
It's hard to tell (clicking on the image should show you), but 1 or 2 of the broccoli are started, and about 5 or 6 bok choy. Very exciting. Looking forward to see how they look tomorrow morning. 3 days almost to the hour of when I planted them. Not bad. In about a week these will be big enough that I have to put them into 2" blocks.

New Pictures :). Getting ready to create the 2" blocks for these. They're outgrowing their small 3/4" block. Some of the broccoli didn't get their roots into the block :) I guess I needed to push the seeds down better. Other than that the basil and stevia still haven't come up. I've got a heating mat and thermostat coming from amazon, so we'll see if that helps.

I planted a bunch of beets (120) and should be planting another 120 when I get some more space :). Hopefully 240 or so is enough we'll see. Maybe it'll be too much who knows.
I also moved my bok choy, basil, and 1 stevia into 2" blocks. "Potting On" proved to be a little more annoying than one might think :) but it worked out well I think. The blocks hold together pretty well, but I've worried more about making them as light as possible. That should make it so they fall apart a little more, but also makes the plants grow faster.
I'll get pics up soon, and hopefully at some point i'll get a small cheap fan to blow air around the room. Evidently, growing indoors makes weaker plants unless you "challenge" them by making their stems require strength. Either you can blow on them every night, or let the oscillating fan run.

I got the worms for my worm bin, and put them in there. They seem to be ok as far as I can tell. Now the trick is waiting and not feeding them too much. Hopefully after a few months they'll be to the point that they can take a pretty constant supply of whatever I can give them.
I also emailed the pottingblocks.com guy about why my seedlings are so tall. They grow tall and straight, rather than starting off their leaves. He thinks it's because of my lights, so hopefully when it warms up a little more I can start seeds in my soon to be cold box outside (it's not built yet). That should give them a better light than the shop lights can offer. It should mean that I just need to plant my transplants a little lower for the ones that are grown inside so that they aren't too weak. I'm planning on testing some normal plastic starting trays next to the soil blocks just as a test, we'll show the results when i do :).
